“Anyone familiar with Robert Matheson’s book “I Am Legend” will recognise the last few lines. The subject matter might be a bit fantastic for The Living Fields, which is normally concerned with more ‘realistic’ fare, but I believe it fits well with the usual mood. The book (unlike the film starring Will Smith) deals with the insanity of coming to terms with being the last man alive...and it does not have a happy ending.” ~ Jono

“Remnant”

Music by The Living Fields
Lyrics by Jon Higgs

Feel, the clock tick
But, no deadline
Afraid of sunlight
Cure the blood strain

Immune to the affliction
Living hosts inherently human

One last specimen
Is the greatest threat
Veil that hides the face
Of the “old race”
Where to find the strength
And will to go on
Although all alone
Curb the chaos

Inside...
...Outside

When all moving parts stood still
In awe or devastation
As a last prayer to silence
Beautiful tragedy

By your own fear
And will to kill
Now give way to (a)
New dominant form has come to the foreground

Viral, famed survivor
Ended, obsolete exemplar

One last specimen
Is the greatest threat
Veil that hides the face
Of the “old race”
Like a castaway
Remnant of the past
Did not realise
You became the scourge

Inside...
...Outside

New era
Has dawned
Breed apart
Finally acknowledge defeat

One last specimen
Is the greatest threat
Veil that hides the face
Of the “old race”
Now that strength has failed
Take the easy way
Final kindness
Free from chaos

Inside...
...Outside

I am superstition
Entering the unassailable
Fortress of forever
I am Legend.
